Russian Opaline Mold blown Tea Caddy

$690.00

For sale is this mold blown Russian opaline tea caddy. This tea caddy is well documented. Made c 1860. The one you are purchasing is the larger version which is about 5 inches tall. The coloring and detail on this one is fantastic. On some versions the detail is not crisp because the mold was too old. The rim has several small chips as this originally had a metal on top so the rim was not polished to remove flea bits. I will be listing the smaller version at a later date

The Cyrillic writing says  "4AN KRXTHNHCKIN". The R is backward. This roughly translate to "tea from Kyakhta". Kyakhta was an old trading post on the Selenga River in Siberia close to the Mongolian border. This tea caddy was packaged in Kyathta. They are  some small chips on top rim otherwise excellent condition.

The last picture is for color comparison only and will be listed separately. Also you can see this tea caddy in Keith Middlemas book Antique Glass in Color.
